EAS LOCAL AREAS
Virginia is divided into 14 LOCAL AREAS (formerly "operational areas") which coordinate EAS activites under the direction of the Local Emergency Communications Commmitte (L.E.C.C.). The LECC Chair and vice-chair are appointed by the FCC and the State Chair; they are also members of the State Emergency Communications Committee (S.E.C.C.). You may obtain more information of the individual LECC's by following the links on the left bar. If you do not know which Local Area you are part of, see the directory below.

This is the official list from the State Plan. The controlling document is the U.S. Commerce Department FIPS CODE LIST , Publication 6-4, more specifically the list for Virginia. BEWARE: Virginia is somewhat unique in that it has 40 independent cities, most of which are fully contained with a single county. Some cities have the SAME NAME as another Virginia County (See "Richmond"). Worse yet, JAMES CITY is a COUNTY. The alpha list for Virginia Independent Cities is to the right of the COUNTY list below.
